The Good Causes
What are the Good Causes? There are five Good Causes and these have been chosen by Parliament. Out of every pound you spend on the Lottery 28 pence goes towards the Good Causes. The Good Causes are split into five categories and these are: Arts, Charities, Heritage, Millennium and Sports. Each of these receives an equal share of the total Good Causes allocation and each has at least one panel which distributes their funds. What does the Arts Council do? The Arts Council was established to encourage more people to participate in a large variety of arts. They provide grants for a wide variety of projects from encouraging the talents of the young, to the refurbishment of arts buildings and locations. The Charities Board aims to help those in greatest need and improve their quality of life. The Charities Board is based on a programmes theme, the first of these being Poverty, Youth issues and low income, and Health, disability and care. The Heritage Lottery Fund enables people living in the United Kingdom to celebrate, look after and learn more about their diverse heritage. The Millennium Commission is established to provide a celebration of the Millennium which will be treasured for the future.
