Who's behind Lottery Central?
Lottery Central was developed in-house by Resolva. Building on the success of previous versions Lottery Central, we have totally re-written all of the code used to run the site, allowing us to take advantage of the latest programming developments and ensure that your experience is as fulfilling as possible. Throughout the production of Lottery Central we were focussed on two key principles: the site must be easy to use and services which we provide must be helpful to our users. If you would like to find out more about any of the services Resolva offers please visit our site at http://www.resolva.com/. Lottery Central history If you have been visiting Lottery Central for a long time you'll have no doubt been with us through a number of different site designs. Lottery Central started in 1994 with the launch of the UK National Lottery, at that time Colin Riddle had simply dedicated one page on his personal site to publish the lottery results, as time went by more pages were added and the lottery section of his site became more popular than the rest of his site. It was then when Lottery Central was made into a site in its own right. Colin, a student at the time, subscribed to an American hosting company, Simplenet (now acquired by Yahoo!), in order to keeps costs low. The site continued to grow in popularity and Colin was finding it more and more work to keep the site updated. Up to then all pages on the site were manually edited and uploaded to the web server, with this no longer a practical method of maintaining the site Colin developed a number of batch scripts which automated the generation of the html pages and the uploading to the server. Now after each draw all he had to do was enter the results and everything would be done automatically. With visitor numbers still increasing it wasn't long before the site outgrew Simplenet. In May 1998 Colin registered the domain lotterycentral.co.uk and moved the site to a new hosting company. With this move brought the ability to use CGI scripts on the server. Colin developed a number of Perl scripts which provided services on the site including the Results Service. At the time of the launch of the Results Service Lottery Central was the only site in the world allowing its visitors to store their numbers on the site and automatically receive an email after every draw letting them know if their numbers had won. Over the next few years the site underwent a few facelifts to ensure that it was always fresh. In November 1999 Colin had to close Lottery Central. Over the preceeding months the popularity of the site meant that he was exceeding his bandwidth allowance and was being billed amounts in excess of £190 each month. As a student Colin simply could not afford to keep the site going. After receiving hundreds of emails asking when the site would return and say how they had relied on it for the results he decided to attempt to gain sponsorship for the site. After a number of enquires DSVR offered to provide a server to host Lottery Central. The site was reopened and has not been out of action since. Having recently founded Resolva, Colin has redeveloped the site, the results of which you are viewing now. Where do the results come from? We gather the results for each draw from multiple sources to ensure the accuracy of the results we display. These include the live television draw, the National Lottery helpline and other web sites such as the offical National Lottery site and Richard Lloyd's Merseyworld Lottery site. Why do you charge for certain services? In order to continue the development and support of Lottery Central the site must maintain a possitive budget. The site generates less than the cost of hosting through advertising and affiliate schemes. All core services of Lottery Central are and always have been free - you can find out the results on the site or have the numbers emailed to you after each draw. However for people who wish to support Lottery Central we offer a subscription to Lottery Central Premium. In return for a small annual fee subscribers receive access to services such as ticket checking within the results emails, SMS results notifications (for those who purchase the SMS upgrade) and advert free browsing. For more information please view our Lottery Central Premium section. If you would like to support Lottery Central without subscribing to Lottery Central Premium then please use any of our affiliate links when you purchase from our partners.
